Hours on the scale are Prishtina time. Working days are 9 hours long, including a break.
How the overlap is calculated
Each working day is nine hours long, including a lunch break, and starts at the time you choose. The calculator looks up the UTC offset of every city on the date you pick, using your browser’s time-zone database, so daylight saving time is handled automatically.
Shared hours are the hours when both days run at the same time. The window under each city shows when those hours fall in that city’s local time, which is the time to book stand-ups and reviews.
The weeks when the gap changes
Europe changes its clocks on the last Sunday of March and October. The United States and Canada change on the second Sunday of March and the first Sunday of November. For two to three weeks in spring and one week in autumn, the gap between Prishtina and New York is one hour shorter than usual. Pick a date in those weeks to see the effect, and move recurring meetings accordingly.
How much overlap a team needs
There is no single rule, but these thresholds hold for most product teams.
- Four hours or more: the teams can work as one, with shared stand-ups, pairing and same-day reviews.
- Two to four hours: comfortable with a fixed daily meeting window and written handovers.
- Under two hours: workable for well-specified work, but plan reviews and decisions for the overlap window and shift one team’s hours if you can.
Shifting the team’s hours
For clients in North America, part of the Prishtina team can work a later day, for example 12:00 to 21:00. Choose a later start under “Prishtina team hours” to see how that changes the overlap, and agree the schedule in the proposal.
Common questions
Which time zone is Prishtina in?
Central European Time (UTC+1) in winter and Central European Summer Time (UTC+2) in summer, the same as Berlin, Paris and Vienna. Kosovo changes its clocks on the same dates as the EU.
How many hours does Prishtina share with New York?
Three hours of a 09:00–18:00 day for most of the year, in the New York morning. Shifting the Prishtina day to start at noon raises that to six.
Does the calculator account for different weekends?
No. It assumes a Monday-to-Friday week. Teams in Saudi Arabia or Israel, where the working week starts on Sunday, share four working days with a Monday-to-Friday team instead of five.
